The bend radius (calculated in a lab environment, appliions may vary) is measured as the distance to the inside edge of the hose (not the center line) when making a 90° bend. When bent at too sharp an angle, the reinforcement may be unduly stressed or distorted, thereby shortening the hose life. Flexibility and minimum bending radius are important factors in the design and selection of hoses, especially if the hose is to be subject to extreme bending during use. It must be kept in mind that the expected bending radius in activity is higher than the minimum bending radius of the respective hose.
